If you are a Jois lineage authorized teacher of the Ashtanga method, or on the path towards becoming one, we are excited to invite you to apply to our apprenticeship program.
This in depth exploration is personalized to your needs in your development as a yoga practitioner and teacher. Programs are available for as short as one month or as long as two years.
Our approach is deeply rooted in tradition and respect for our teachers in India. While anyone can apply for the program, all applicants must be committed to practicing in Mysore as the most fundamental component of their journey.
From this commitment to tradition, we believe that one’s personal practice can flourish. Then, as the yogi feels called to share the practice with others, the guidance and mentorship of experienced teachers is a must. Via this apprenticeship, you will receive hundreds of hours of hands-on experience, adjustment clinics, and mentorship with Joseph, Esme, Edgar and other senior MLC staff.

With our unique blend of hands on experience, class room education, mentorship and professional development, we'll provide the perfect environment for you to master the fundamentals of yoga and build your confidence as a teacher.
What training can you expect?
Education in Ashtanga yoga techniques and practices: Understand the fundamentals of yoga philosophy, alignment, anatomy and breath work. This training will honor the Indian roots of yoga.
Mentorship by experienced yogis: The MLC team of Mysore teachers will share their direct experience in teaching, practicing and leading workshops.
Personal development curriculum: Develop learning skills like goal setting, self-discipline, and meditation to help you become a more effective teacher.
Teaching practice: Learn the art of teaching Mysore style, group classes, private lessons and workshops; understand communication dynamics; learn how to observe students’ progress.
Professional development: Understand the business side of running a yoga program including marketing, financial planning and operations management.
Independent projects: Create projects involving research and teaching that allow for creative expression within one's own yoga practice as well as sharing knowledge with others.
Each apprentice will set their year long schedule in collaboration with Joseph. This detailed program will be finalized before payment is due. While the general requirements can be found below, your apprenticeship will be unique to you.
The Big Picture:
For those doing the one or two year option, our apprenticeship will be broken up into three month rotations.. Each rotation you will be assigned one teacher to assist (five days a week) and one teacher to practice with (6 days a week).
You must participate in our 200 hour YA Intensive prior to applying for apprenticeship. If you feel you qualify for an exception, feel free to email us with a break down of your experience.
Each cohort will be comprised of no more than 4 apprentices.
You will be assigned adjustments one at a time and taught new ones as you become proficient.
You will study anatomy as applicable to yoga asana. Anatomy study will be done in a combination of live in person study and prerecorded online modules.
You will memorize the Sanskrit names for all poses as well as the vinyasa counts for full primary.
Attendance to all classes is mandatory. Failure to maintain your personal practice or assisting schedule will be grounds for expulsion from program.
You are required to take the workshops of any visiting authorized teachers during your apprenticeship. These courses will be discounted.
This program is ideal for those already authorized by Sharath Yoga Center in Mysore India. If you are not already authorized, you agree to practice in Mysore with Paramaguru R. Sharath Jois with the intention of becoming Authorized. While we aim to enrich your teaching, only Sharathji can offer official authorization to teach in out lineage.
You agree to honor the lineage as taught by SYC in Mysore and only teach and practice the asanas that you have been instructed on.
You agree not to teach outside of the apprenticeship so that you can commit your energy to the rigorous study, assisting and practice schedule.
Monthly checkin with Joseph to review progress and set intentions and guidelines for the following month.

The Journey:
In detail…
Level 1 Apprenticeship (1 year)*
Requires that you have completed the MLC 200hr intensive
6 days of a week of assisting with senior MLC teachers (rotating quarterly).
6 days a week of practice with senior MLC teachers (rotating quarterly).
Access to the Ashtanga Yoga Immersion Adjustment Clinic
Access to Trauma Informed Ashtanga Workshop or other guest teacher workshops
Access to Business of Yoga with Kino
Monthly teaching and assisting clinics with senior MLC teachers.
At least one week of mysore practice with Tim and/or Kino, opportunities to assist them during or after your year.
One on one mentorship with Joseph or senior MLC teachers.
*Must have a longtime, dedicated Ashtanga yoga practice. Authorized by SYC or committed to receiving authorization.
Level 2 Apprenticeship (6 months to 1 year)*
Open to level 1 apprenticeship graduates, those with 300hr intensive experience .
Hundreds of hours of practice and assisting experience (with a focus on second series assists) with senior MLC teachers.
Monthly Second Series adjustments and modifications clinic
In depth exploration of yoga philosophy with guest teachers
Access to Business of yoga with Kino.
Depending on the timing of your apprenticeship, at least one week of mysore practice with Tim and/or Kino, opportunities to assist them during or after your year.
Mentorship under Joseph and senior MLC teachers.
*Must have completed Level 1 in addition to ample Ashtanga assisting and/or teaching experience. Authorized by SYC preferred, though we will consider those committed to receiving authorization.
Note: Shorter and longer apprenticeship periods are available by request.
Program Tuition & Payment:

Level 1 apprenticeship - $4500.
A $1,000 non-refundable deposit is required if accepted. Final payment due three months before program start date. A payment plan may be available upon request.
Level 2 apprenticeship - $3,500.
A $1,000 non-refundable deposit is required if accepted in order to sign up for the program. Final payment due three months before program start date. A payment plan may be available upon request.
