Welcome to Dell.

Nestled within the Cairngorms wilderness and with easy access to Aviemore, The Dell offers a main lodge and cottages offer the perfect escape for anyone looking to dive deep into their yoga practice.

The Dell has created the perfect setting to unwind, stoke your fire, re-connect and breathe deep. You can choose to go barefoot on the lawn, pick a hammock, toast your toes and slow right down all whilst taking in the silence amongst the trees.

The Dell was originally built to house the head forester of Seafield Estate, who kindly planted many of the different species towering head and shoulders above the house today. Beech and Horse Chestnut, Oak, and the fragrant Lime, which has been known to ‘calm ones nerves by simply walking beneath’.

The Food

Eating at The Dell is not like any retreat you have been on! Polly is a culinary wizard and those who have eaten her food dont forget their experience in a hurry! Bruch and Dinner are sit down culinary experiences and will be served over two houses. Polly and her team create food which marries together the flavours of fine dining flavours with Scottish country soul food.

On the retreat you can expect a very hearty brunch that will be served after our morning session and a spectacular evening dinner with a few snack on offer in between. Coffee and Tea are alway available.

Meet Joseph and Katy

Our paths first met in Miami and have since crossed in India, Europe and now Central America. This is our second retreat together, our first being a focus and fun filled week in Puglia Italy. We both value tradition but also welcome innovation and creativity when needed. We offer a week that is big on digging deep into the practice but balancing it with the joy of human connection. • Katy finds the blurred lines between tradition and modernity fascinating, scary, provocative and transformational. An Ashtanga at heart she finds comfort and support within the traditions of the practice, completing 3 months of study in Mysore under Sharath Jois. When it comes to breathwork and pranayama it’s a different story. After years of traditional practice she shook things up and dove head first into the world of breathwork where she experienced the life altering power of breath!

Bending in tradition, modern science and dynamic breathwork practices she offers a space for all students to go all in, go deep all whilst being supported on the breathwork journey.

Katy believes there is a beauty of combining the tradition with the modern to create a practice that serves you so you can serve others. A dedicated practitioner, teacher, business owner, mama and wife she understands the true meaning of flexibility and likes to share the lessons she has learnt to all willing to try.

  • Joseph Armstrong teaches yoga rooted firmly in tradition but with an eye to the future. His search for a more present and peaceful life first led him to the practice in 2008. A few years later he was in India studying intensively.

After finally overcoming a long struggle with addiction, Joseph began experimenting with Ashtanga Yoga. He understood quickly that the lineage was calling to him to deepen his practice. He underwent a 2 year apprenticeship program at the world renowned Miami Life Center, continuing his education under his dear teachers Tim Fieldman and Kino MacGregor.

He also practices regularly with Paramaguru Sharath Jois in Mysore India, where he was given his level 2 authorization. Joseph teaches yoga because attempts to do any and everything else ended disastrously. But when he finally devoted himself to his passion, he became an asset to himself and others. He hopes his practice allows him to be ever more loving and to exist gently.

Why go on retreat?

It all begins with practice. Maybe you want to start from scratch. Maybe you want to reconnect to the mysore style. Or maybe you just want to go deeper, surrounded by nature and inspired by community.

Whatever your reasons, this is your chance to prioritize your practice.

All levels are welcome, complete beginner to 7th series. The spark of contentment that comes with yoga practice will be supported for all!
